What could be better than spending your time on activities that mix leisure and culture, in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Anyone who wants to participate in Matavitatau’s next activity, scheduled on August 3rd and 4th, 2013, open to members and not memebers, can enjoy the sun and the sea, on a guided walk in ancient history to Cerveteri and Tarquinia, declared UNESCO World Heritage in 2004. The cemeteries of these cities, which constitute one of the most interesting archaeological zones around the mata1Mediterranean world, are a masterpiece of human creative genius and constitute a unique and exceptional witness of the ancient Etruscan civilization, the only preRoman urban civilization. The great mural paintings of Tarquinia, represent one of the largest examples of pictorial art of the ancient world. The journey will continue by the sea, to the discovery of one of the most beautiful archaeological site in Italy, the female sanctuary of Leucotea in Pyrgi, a town of Etruria-today Santa Severa -the main port of Cerveteri. With a rapid and unexpected climbing a dune, you can see the archaeological remains of monumental temples in the sacred area, famous in antiquity for its Etruscan sanctuary with fabulous riches, one of which miraculously re-emerged in 1964 during excavations at the temple B .

Nothing was known about the location of the sanctuary until May 1957, when excavations began by the University of Rome, brought it almost entirely to light, with the most significant discoveries made by Italian archeology after WWII.

A sensational discovery was that of three sheets of gold written in Etruscan and Phoenician, commemorating the establishment of Uni-Astarte cult, an exceptional document that marked a turning point in the knowledge of archaic pre-Roman history.
